Fields of Pipits, Larks, & Buntings

The surprising activity of Horned Larks and American Pipets within a seemingly barren, brown field, particularly during winter is a site to see. Upon closer inspection, one would be astonished to witness the field teeming with small brown shapes. Upon turning, the distinct features of Horned Larks become apparent – a tidy yellow face, a black mask, and delicate black "horns" swaying in the breeze.

Larks and Pipits as widespread songbirds, inhabit a variety of landscapes including fields, deserts, and tundra. Their foraging habits involve searching for seeds and insects, showcasing their adaptability to different environments. These remarkable birds also contribute to the auditory landscape with their high, tinkling song.
