Eastern Bluebirds Workshop

Collaboration with Carlisle Tool Library and The Bird Guy Tours

Saturday April 25 2026

Thank you to everyone who joined us for yesterday’s Eastern Bluebirds Workshop at the Carlisle Tool Library. We had a full group of eight participants and a morning filled with learning, building, and plenty of fun banter. This collaboration between the Carlisle Tool Library and The Bird Guy Tours brought together community members who wanted to support bluebirds in their own backyards through hands‑on conservation.

Building the Nest Boxes

Everyone rolled up their sleeves and got to work with the materials provided by the Carlisle Tool Library. The group built eight complete nest boxes, each one made to the correct dimensions and ready for installation. Even those with little or no woodworking experience finished with a sturdy, bird‑safe box they can proudly use at home.

The atmosphere stayed upbeat and friendly throughout the morning. There was plenty of conversation, teamwork, and laughter as each box came together. By the end of the session, every participant walked out with a completed nest box and the confidence to put it to good use.

Caring for Your Nest Box

The Bird Guy Tours provided a short slideshow on how to care for bluebird boxes throughout the nesting season. We covered:

• Where to place your box for the best chance of attracting bluebirds

• How to monitor nests safely and responsibly

• How to protect boxes from predators

• When and how to clean boxes between broods

• What to expect during the breeding cycle

Participants left with clear, simple steps they can follow to support bluebirds all season long.

Learning About Bluebirds

We closed the workshop with an introduction to Eastern Bluebirds, covering their habitat needs, nesting behavior, and the challenges they face during the breeding season. Participants learned why nest boxes are so important and how simple, well‑placed boxes can make a real difference for cavity‑nesting birds in the Cumberland Valley.

A Great Community Event

This workshop was a strong example of how community partnerships can support local wildlife and help people learn practical conservation skills. Thank you to the Carlisle Tool Library for hosting and to everyone who attended and brought such a positive spirit to the morning.

A copy of the slideshow, placement tips, and a printable care sheet is attached.
